Critique of 2011 Championship Show

Thank you very much for the club, Irish Wolfhound Club of Northern Ireland, for inviting me to judge at your Breed Championship Show on 23rd September 2011 in Hillsborough. Thank you also to the committee for a such lovely show, must say that I really enjoyed my day in this lovely showground. It was very easy to me to judge as I had two excellent stewards, Ms Margaret Martin and Mr Kenneth Stevenson, thank you for all your help during the day.

  • JD (2, 1)

    1 Macauley’s Gartlove Goraidh. Very promising young male of excellent proportions. Correct head and expression. Strong neck. Still needs to develop in front angulation. Excellent forechest and body for his age. Beautiful topline. Correct angulation behind. Excellent movement in all directions.

  • YD (2,0)

    1 Macaulay’s Pitlochry’s Gabor for Gartlove. Promising young male with correct proportions. Excellent length of head with dark eyes and a strong neck. A bit upright in shoulder. Excellent forechest and body for his age but a bit flat in topline. Moves very well.

    2 Lyon’s Rivenhound Caledonia Cream at Mysticglen. Excellent type and proportions. Well shaped head. Strong neck. Could have a bit more angulation front and rear. Excellent forechest and correct topline. Still a bit unsteady in movement. Excellent coat quality.

  • ND (2,0)

    1 Finney’s Gulliagh Aramis. Very promising young male built on beautiful lines. Lovely long head with excellent expression. Strong neck fitting well into shoulders. Good length of body. Typical angulation. Good forechest. Correct topline. Slightly weak hocks when standing. Excellent movement in all directions.

    2 Brown’s Brandos Surprise. A rather heavily built male. Would like to see a more elegant head. Strong neck. Excellent angulation. Excellent neck, body and topline. Moved okay coming and going but could have more reach and drive in profile. Bite could be better.

  • UGD (1,0)

    1 McDonnell’s Cualainn Eli. Excellent type and proportions. Well shaped head. Excellent strong neck but slightly upright upper arm. Enough forechest for his age. Correct topline. Correctly angulated behind. A bit stiff in hind movement but excellent side movement. He is a bit proud of his tail on the move.

    1 McKeown’s Gulliagh Makem. A rather straight bodied male overall lacking in angulation. A bit heavy in skull. Would like to see smaller ears and darker eyes. Strong neck. Excellent forechest. Could have more length of ribbing. Correct topline but too steep in croup. Excellent side movement.

    1 Clark’s Tarlog Liam Neeson. Excellent type and proportions. Excellent long head. Could have a slightly darker eye. Strong neck. A bit straight in upper arm. Excellent forechest and body. Correct topline. Correctly angulated behind. Moved well coming and going but could do with more reach and drive in side movement.

    1 O’Keeffe’s Calcara Bracken. Quality male with excellent proportions. Lovely long head. Beautiful strong neck. A bit steep in upper arm. Excellent forechest, body and topline. Excellent movement. CC, RBIS.

    2 Finney’s Ir Ch Cuknocklong Henry Higgins. Quality male with excellent proportions. Good head and expression. Eyes could be a bit darker. Excellent strong neck. Could have a bit more front angulation. Excellent body and topline. Correctly angulated behind. Moved well up and down but could have a bit more reach and drive. RCC.

    3 Tebbutt’s Ch Caredig Denzil. Slightly low on the leg. Would like to see a leaner skull with darker eyes and smaller ears. Strong neck. Correct angulation. Excellent forechest, body and topline. Moved a bit wide in front but excellent profile movement.

  • PB (5,3)

    1 S Scott’s Tarlog Tullagh Waterfall. Six months old promising puppy with good overall proportions. Well shaped head. Still needs to develop in front angulation. Promising forechest and body. Correct topline. Well angulated behind. Excellent movement for her age. Slightly weak in pasterns when standing. BPIS.

    2 Martin’s Barnesmore Molly Bloom. Six months old puppy at the moment a bit low on legs. Very good head and expression. Excellent neck. Correctly angulated front and rear. Correct forechest, length of body and topline. Moved well up and down but could have a bit more reach in profile.

    1 Macauley’s Gartlove Ghleann Goroania. Very promising balanced bitch with excellent head and expression. Strong neck. Balanced angulation. Very promising forechest and body. Beautiful topline. Excellent free movement in all directions.

  • YB (4,1)

    1 Doak’s Clocan Killian. Excellent type and proportions. Well shaped head. Excellent neck. A bit straight in upper arm. Excellent forechest and body. Beautiful topline. Moved close behind but very good profile movement.

    2 Finney’s Gulliagh Constance. Still needs time to develop but already excellent proportions. Well shaped head. Could have a darker eye. Needs more front angulation. Needs to develop in forechest. Correct topline. Excellent side movement.

    3 O’Keeffe’s Calcara Gnothas. A bit long in body. Well shaped head. Strong neck. Enough angulation in front. Excellent forechest and body. Correct topline. Well angulated behind. Moved a bit close behind but very well in profile, with good reach.

  • UGB (3,2)

    1 Gargan’s Bribiba’s Country Dancer. Excellent type and proportions. Well shaped head, could have a darker eye. Excellent strong neck. Could have a bit more angulation at both ends. Excellent forechest and body. A bit flat in topline standing. Excellent movement in all directions.

  • PGB (6,0)

    1 Potter’s Tarlog Juno Of The Valley. Excellent type and proportions. Well shaped head. Eye could be a bit darker. Strong neck. A bit straight in upper arm. Excellent forechest and body but a bit too flat in topline when standing. Could have a bit more rear angulation. Excellent movement.

    2 O’Keeffe’s Calcara Gnothas. A bit long in body. Well shaped head. Strong neck. Enough angulation in front. Excellent forechest and body. Correct topline. Well angulated behind. Moved a bit close behind but very well in profile, with good reach.

    3 Finney’s Gulliagh Killogues. Excellent type with correct proportions. Bit heavy in skull. Strong neck. Balanced angulation. A bit flat in topline. Excellent coat quality. Paddling in front movement and could have a bit more reach and drive in profile.

    1 O’Neill’s Luna Eclipse over Ballyvonair. Quality bitch with excellent type and proportions. Beautiful head and expression. Excellent strong neck. Balanced angulation. Excellent forechest and body. Correct topline. Slightly close behind when moving but profile movement is excellent. Bitch RCC.

    2 Clark’s Tarlog Cuimhne ar Killykeen. Quality bitch with excellent type and proportions. Excellent head and expression. Strong neck. Forechest needs to develop. Excellent body and topline. Correctly angulated behind. Moves well up and down but could have more reach and drive in profile.

    3 Bradley’s Caredig Ffiasco. Excellent type and proportions. Beautiful head and expression. Excellent strong neck. A bit straight in upper arm. Excellent forechest and topline. Could have a better underline. Correctly angulated behind. Excellent mover.

    1 Macauley’s Graystone Farunah from Gartlove. Quality bitch built on beautiful lines. Lovely head and expression. Excellent strong neck. Balanced angulation. Excellent forechest and body. Correct topline. Moves beautifully in all directions. CC, BIS.

    2 Finney’s Ch & Ir Ch Gulliagh Corrig. Excellent type and proportion. Well shaped head. Strong neck. Could have a bit more front angulation. Excellent body but too flat in topline. Correct angulation behind. Excellent movement.

    3 Tebbutt’s Cu-Uladh Sionainn Caredig. Excellent type and proportions. Well shaped head. Strong neck. Adequate angulation in front. Excellent forechest and body. Too steep in croup and could have more angulation in hind legs. Moved slightly wide in front. Excellent side movement.

    1 Finney’s Gulliagh Molly Malone. 8-year old bitch. Excellent proportions. Excellent long head. Strong neck. Typical angulation. Excellent forechest and body. Slightly steep in croup. Moved well for her age. BVIS.

    2 Finney’s Gulliagh Scarlet. 8-year old bitch. Correct proportions. Bit heavy in skull. Strong neck. Balanced angulation . Excellent forechest, body and correct topline. Moves wide in front but good profile movement.
